The protagonist of the story, one of the greatest political minds of his time, Niccolo Machiavelli, a master of deception and political intrigue, this time ridicules human stupidity, a trait that is independent of social status and education. Doctor of law, Calfucci and his wife, Lukrecja, have long been trying for a baby. The results of their actions however, remain fruitless. As a result of the cunning intrigue of Machiavelli and his partners in crime, there appears to be an apparent solution to the problem…

The musical was written in 1975 at the request of the Musical Theatre in Gdynia. The music was composed by the remarkable Jerzy Wasowski, and the jazz-rock arrangements of the songs by Jerzy Wasowski were developed by Tomasz Lewandowski, musical director of the show. The libretto was written by the excellent duo, Richard Marek Groński and Antoni Marianowicz. It is based on Machiavelli’s sixteenth century satirical play, The Mandrake, which explores the corruption and pervasive stupidity in society.
